CHANGE IN SATURDAY MASS TIMES
We thought that for the time being, as an experiment, we would have the Saturday Vigil Mass at 12.15pm. Hopefully, not too many people will be inconvenienced. Several reasons: favourable comments re the early Vigil Mass at Christmas, buses still running, winter months and dark evenings deter elderly from venturing out, the church will only have to be sanitised once because there will not be a Mass at 10am.
We’ll give it a try and if it doesn’t work out, will revert back.
Will start next Saturday, so do spread the news.
FOOD BANK – many thanks for the food left at the back of church – the Food Bank was closed this week so the food will be taken next Thursday.
NEW OFFERTORY ENVELOPES – are at the back of church. Once again, if you haven’t got a book of envelopes and would like one, take one and write you name and the number of the envelope on the sheet of paper. Put GT if you want it gift-aided and take a gift-aid form.
A HAPPY AND HEALTHY AND PEACEFUL NEW YEAR TO ALL.
A Fr Reggie Foster – a Vatican Latinist died recently – he translated Hot Dog as Pastillum Botello Fartum – better stick to English
INSTRUCTIONS -‘ The dinner seems to be taking a long to cook!’ moaned Casey. ‘Don’t blame me ‘ said his missus, ‘I’m only following the instructions. On the box it says that the peas have to be boiled separately. I can’t tell you how long it’s taking!’ On another box of instructions it said ‘Stand in boiling water for twenty minutes’. Mrs Casey could never manage that.
HUGH LAVERY – ‘We need a light; just one star for compass and company in our pilgrimage. The Epiphany is light not legend. It is release. It declares there are no God-forsaken areas, no unsanctified soil, no unfertile fields. The magi and magicians have no territory they can exploit, no forces they can exert to manipulate men and bend them like forks to serve a sinister purpose.’
JANE CHITTISTER-‘ ‘What do you do in the monastery?’ the seeker asked the monastic. ‘Oh, we fall and we get up; we fall and we get up; we fall and we get up.’ Perfection is not the absence of failure. It is the willingness to begin again and again.’
If you must be heard, let it be like a babbling brook, laughing over rocks.
