FOOD BANK – a big thank you for all the food left in the porch – taken to the Food Bank on Thursday and received ever so gratefully

HOW LOVELY – to see the snow falling on Friday! Nature loves to surprise us.

ADVENT – our Advent wreath is a helpful reminder of this grace-filled season, when we try to open our hearts to the Lord. It is largely forgotten in the pre-Christmas clamour.

WISE WORDS – from David Attenborough – ‘DON’T WASTE’ – don’t waste food, don’t waste water, don’t waste energy.

HUGH LAVERY – ‘The land needs its winter. This is the given order. Rise, fall, decay, renovation- this is the liturgy of the world. Perpetual winter would be unbearable but all sun makes a desert. If there are hard times ahead it may be that hardiness is a virtue that can only be acquired in contention with the cold. Jesus was born in December and rose in the Spring.’

INDEED – How are you, Rosie?’ asked Betty McCann. ‘Sure I’m in a terrible state, Betty,’ was the reply. ‘I’m in such pain I can’t lift me arms above me head, and it’s the same with me legs’

FULL OF HOPE – ‘ Pope Francis, stressing that people are called by the Holy Spirit, said that after the tough test of the pandemic the faithful will be truer believers and more authentic. He added, believe me, it will be so. In the past Francis has said, the Catholics shouldn’t turn up for Mass if they are not also prepared to try to nurture a living faith. Don’t bother, he says, if you don’t feel in need of God’s mercy or you are simply a Christian parrot who recites the words of the liturgy but doesn’t speak to your parents or visit the sick.

CHRISTMAS CARDS – available in the porch.

STAY SAFE AND KEEP WELL.

The past has no power over the present moment.
