VIETATO LAMENTARSI – Pope Francis is so anti-grumbling that he’s stuck up a sign on his office door, on which is printed in red letters Vietato Lamentarsi. Translation:’Complaining is not allowed’or (no whining). The small print of the sign, a gift to Francis from Italian psychologist Salvo Noe, reads ‘To get the best out of yourself, concentrate on your potential and not on your limitations.’
ONE DAILY PAPER – this week, recalled the newly elected Pope in 2013 talking of ‘Christians who have faces like pickled peppers, such long faces, rather than being joyful for the beautiful life they have.’
BIG GETAWAY – it seems that the holidays have arrived – along with the rain! Hope that parishioners can chill out, whether away or at home. Tatton Park Flower Show is always popular at this time of the year; and visiting cathedrals and old churches is alwys a joy .
ORDINATIONS THIS WEEKEND – we might keep in our prayers Mark Paver and Gavin Landers who are being ordained this Saturday at the Cathedral.
HOW LONG AS SERMON? – According to Revd Christine Smith, a sermon should last 8 to 10 minutes and no longer. Pope Francis tells his priest to keep their homilies short and simple – I think we qualify!!!
SUMMER READING – Catherine Fox (married to Pete Wilcox, the Bishop of Sheffield) write about the ups and downs of a fictional diocese.
MARK TWAIN -‘I have never taken any exercise except sleeping and resting’
