ON LENT – GERARD HUGHES – ‘Prayer and fasting is of value only in so far as it helps us keep our mind and heart focussed on God, the Holy One, so that we can become channels of his compassion for all creation. Holiness is not to be measured by the time we spend in prayer, nor by visions, ecstasies, etc, but by the quality of our relationships, how they reflect the goodness and love of God. Someone wrote ‘ We are as close to God as we are to the person we like least.’ I have a horrible suspicion that the writer may be right.’
CARPE DIEM (seize the day) – and when the sun dances that’s what we have to do. The crocus, escpecially, are doing their best to cheer us up. A big feast day this week: St Patrick on Friday; St Joseph will have to wait till Monday.
RED MISSION BOXES – are being collected at present.
THREE PARKS LINK WALK – Sunday 26th March, an 11 moderate mile walk with Paul Nethercott linking Stamford, Cheetham and Stalybridge Country parks.

INDEED – What game is played by 20 people in a telephone booth? Squash!
